Disease Management: CCA provides international impetus

Munich, December 2011. At the annual conference of the Care Continuum Alliance (CCA) in San Francisco, almeda joined forces with the Daman National Health Insurance Company to present a project on the successful expertise transfer of telecoaching methods in Abu Dhabi. As part of a project supervised by Munich Health, almeda helped set up a local telemedical service centre within just six months.

The cooperation included consultation on the business plan, translation and cultural adaptation of the almeda care concepts, a software solution and staff training. The pilot indications were diabetes and obesity. Meanwhile an additional program - "Asthma" - has now been initiated in Abu Dhabi, with collaborative preparations for a pregnancy program currently in full swing.

There were reports of comparable initiatives and cross-border projects involving the management of chronic illnesses from other health markets, too, including Brazil, South Africa and India. Other topics which were the subject of intense debate at the congress were as follows:

  • The use of social media (e.g. online communities, expert chat) as part of disease management
  • The impact of social networks (e.g. family, friends, local self-help groups)
  • The use of telecoaching as part of corporate health management

"almeda will now examine relevant ideas and stimuli, operationalise them and integrate them in the further development of telecoaching programs on an ongoing basis," explains Ruth Philipp, Head of Product Management and Development.
